A flourishing learning community building academic, creative, social and personal excellence as students progress towards senior qualifications and the world of work.

Our aim is to provide the maximum opportunity for students to achieve personal and academic growth in a supportive environment. We have high aspirations for all our students and will provide the teaching and learning opportunities to develop the talents and build the skills necessary for students to maximise their post-school choices.

All students are provided with personal counselling and careers guidance to assist them in the transition from school to tertiary education, apprenticeships, traineeships or job preparation. Melton Secondary College offers quality opportunities and pathways for students to pursue an educational journey that suits there skills, interests and aspirations.

When students enter the senior school in Year 10, students are given some freedom in tailoring a course to pursue their interests and also consider pathways for the future. Year 10 is an opportune time for students to experiment with new and interesting subjects and to challenge themselves academically. Students should select a course that offers a wide range of subjects and experiences in order to make informed choices and move confidently into the next stage of their educational journey.

Year 10 students can pursue accelerated VCE studies or begin work towards a nationally recognised VET credential.

Further information on all subjects offered are featured in our Year 10 handbook.

Head Start Program

To provide our students with the best possible start to the following academic year, we have developed a Head Start Program for Years 10-12.

During the two week-long program, students will begin their course of study in each subject that includes:

  • An overview of the course
  • Requirements for satisfactory completion
  • Procedures / tasks for determining the level of achievement
  • Tasks that need to be completed prior to the start of the New Year.
  • Texts / equipment that students will need.

SEL Classes

Within the curriculum all senior students complete one period per week of SEL Classes. This is a structured program that equips students with the knowledge, skills and mindsets required to excel in senior secondary studies and begin post-secondary career planning.

Victorian Certificate Of Education

Melton Secondary College provides VCE students with an extensive range of rigorous and challenging academic programs in a variety of learning areas. Our VCE teachers have an enormous breadth and depth of specialist experience and expertise. Many are active members of their relevant subject associations as well as being VCE Assessors.

The challenge of VCE is complimented by a supportive learning culture, underpinned by the STARR Connect personal and social development program and Study and Career Skills program. These structured programs encourage students to become resilient, emotionally intelligent, independent learners. Our focus on both academic excellence and personal development prepares our students for a successful and fulfilling life.

The School places a heavy emphasis on career development vocational guidance. Students receive extensive support when making their career decisions.

Student talents, efforts and achievements are rewarded in an environment which fosters mutual respect, personal integrity and a strong sense of self-worth.

Victorian Senior Secondary Certificate Reform 2023

This year, alongside many schools in Victoria, our school has begun two new Senior Secondary Certificates. The two new Senior Programmes replace the former Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning. (VCAL)

The two new programmes/certificates are called:

VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) & Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC)

Our current Year 12s who enrolled in VCAL in 2022, will be the last cohort to complete the VCAL certificate this year. Our current Year 11s have begun the new programmes of VCE VM & VPC Unit 1 & 2.

By 2024, all students enrolled in VCE VM and VPC at MSC will be completing the new programme. (Year 11 – Unit 1&2 and Year 12 – Unit 3&4)

By 2025, all Victorian schools will deliver the new Senior Secondary Certificates.

It’s important to note that the Vocational Major is a VCE programme which is an alternative to the VCE ATAR programme.
